The AMALTEA First Open Call has officially concluded, marking an important milestone in the project’s mission to accelerate the digital and sustainable transformation of the façade industry.
The call attracted strong interest from innovators across Europe and beyond: more than 400 applications were started, 154 proposals were submitted, and applicants from 28 countries took part. Interest was distributed across all eight innovation challenges, reflecting the breadth of technological opportunities across the façade lifecycle — from design and manufacturing to installation, dismantling and recycling.
Following the evaluation process, 10 innovative software and hardware projects have been selected to join the AMALTEA ecosystem, bringing new expertise and technologies in areas including data interoperability, parametric design, robotic manufacturing, quality inspection, sensor fusion, robot navigation and lifecycle assessment.
Supporting innovation across the façade lifecycle
AMALTEA is developing an integrated ecosystem of AI, robotics, digital twins and data-driven technologies to transform the curtain-wall façade value chain.
Through its Open Calls, the project brings SMEs and start-ups into this ecosystem to develop, test and validate complementary technologies in real-world environments.
The First Open Call made available up to €1.5 million in Financial Support to Third Parties, with two funding tracks:
- Software solutions: up to €100,000 per project, with a 9-month support programme
- Hardware solutions: up to €200,000 per project, with a 12-month support programme
Beyond financial support, selected companies will receive technical mentoring, business coaching and opportunities to test and validate their technologies within AMALTEA’s pilot environments.
The solutions are expected to connect with, enhance or complement AMALTEA’s 10 Digital Tools, which together support the different stages of the façade lifecycle: parametric design and simulation, digital twins, robotic manufacturing, automated welding and bonding, quality control, robotic installation, sensing and navigation, and material sorting and recycling.
Eight challenges, one shared ambition
Applicants were invited to address one of eight concrete innovation challenges identified by the AMALTEA consortium:
- Integrated Data Storage and Standardization for Digital Façade Systems
- Parametric Solution for AI Training
- Web-based GUI for Design Decisions and Platform-independent Accessibility
- Advanced Inspection and Control Systems for Quality Assessment in Robotic Manufacturing
- Adaptive Manufacturing and Quality Control
- Advanced Sensor Integration for Collision Detection and Precise Positioning in Mobile Robot Navigation
- Robot Platform Positioning and Navigation with Collision and Interference Detection
- Life Cycle and Cost Assessment
The selected solutions will contribute to addressing these challenges while integrating with the wider AMALTEA technological ecosystem and progressing towards validation in relevant or real-world environments.

From applications to real-world innovation
Reaching 154 submitted applications from 28 countries was also the result of a collective effort across the AMALTEA consortium. Over the course of the call, partners mobilised their networks, organised webinars and outreach activities, developed communication resources and supported prospective applicants through numerous helpdesk interactions.
That work helped connect AMALTEA with a diverse community of SMEs, start-ups and technology providers interested in shaping the future of digital and robotic façade construction.
The focus now shifts from selection to implementation. The 10 winning projects will work alongside the AMALTEA consortium to further develop their solutions, integrate them with the project’s technologies and move towards testing and validation in AMALTEA’s pilot environments.
Their contribution will help AMALTEA move closer to its broader objective: creating a more automated, efficient, safe and sustainable façade value chain, from initial design to end-of-life recycling.
What’s next? Stay tuned for the Second Open Call
The innovation journey does not stop here. AMALTEA’s Second Open Call is set to launch in fall 2026, offering a new opportunity for SMEs and start-ups to join the project and contribute innovative solutions to the future of façade design, manufacturing, installation and recycling.
