Open Call
1. Overview
AMALTEA invites up to 25 SMEs and start‑ups to develop, test, and validate cutting‑edge software and hardware solutions for façade applications, leveraging AI, digital twins, and advanced robotics.
- Total FSTP budget: €4 000 000 (lump‑sum model)
- Per‑project funding: €100 000 (software) – €200 000 (hardware)
- Duration: 9 months for software; 12 months for hardware
Each selected project will receive comprehensive technical mentoring, business coaching, and access to real‑world Pilots to ensure market‑ready solutions that meet Green Deal objectives.
2. Digital Tools: Core Technical Infrastructure
At the heart of AMALTEA lies a modular suite of 10 Digital Tools (DTs) that enable end‑to‑end façade system orchestration—from AI‑driven design to recycling. All applicant solutions must interface with, enhance, or complement one or more DTs via standardized APIs and data models.
DIGITAL SOLUTIONS FOR DESIGN:
- DT1. AI enhanced parametric design system
- DT2. Automated simulation for façade components (sustainability, mechanical and thermal simulations)
- DT3. Extended digital twin of the façade design, manufacturing, installation, and recycling
DIGITAL SOLUTIONS FOR MANUFACTURING
- DT4. AI for manufacturing process optimization with collaborative robots
- DT5. Automated welding system
- DT6. Automated precision glass bonding with structural silicone
- [DT7. AI enhanced quality control of the façade manufacturing
DIGITAL SOLUTIONS FOR INSTALLATION
- DT8. Collaborative mobile robotic platform for on-site installation of facades
- DT9. Advanced control system and sensors
DIGITAL SOLUTIONS FOR DISASSEMBLY AND RECYCLING
- DT8. Collaborative mobile robotic platform for on-site installation of facades
- DT10. Automatic strategies for material sorting and recycling
3. Pilots: Living Laboratories
Selected solutions will be tested and validated in four large‑scale Pilots across Europe, each covering key phases of the façade lifecycle:
DESIGN
Pilot Case 1 — AI-Driven Parametric Design & Lifecycle Optimization
MANUFACTURING
Pilot Case 2 — Façade manufacturing line in FDB facilities (Budapest – Hungary)
INSTALLATION & DISMANTLING AND RECYCLING
Pilots Cases 3 & 4 — Real-World Demonstration Buildings
Pilot 3 — Southern Europe: Hospital/Residential (ACC)
Pilot 4 — Central Europe: Office/Residential (ZUB)
Key Pilot Objectives:
- Demonstrate technical feasibility and scalability
- Provide real‑time feedback loops with end‑users
- Validate interoperability with AMALTEA Digital Tools
- Accelerate market readiness of AI‑powered façade solutions
4. Innovation Challenges
Within these Pilots, 8 concrete challenges have been defined. For the First Open Call, we seek 10 software and hardware solutions, each addressing one innovation challenge from the list below:
- Challenge 1: Integrated Data Storage and Standardization for Digital Façade Systems
- Challenge 2: Parametric Solution for AI Training
- Challenge 3: Web-based GUI for Design Decisions of Platform-independent Accessibility
- Challenge 4: Advanced Inspection and Control Systems for Quality Assessment in Robotic Manufacturing
- Challenge 5: Adaptive manufacturing and Quality Control
- Challenge 6: Advanced Sensor Integration for Collision Detection and Precise Positioning in Mobile Robot Navigation for Building Operations
- Challenge 7: Positioning of the robot platform and navigation with Collision and inteference Detection
- Challenge 8: Life cycle and cost assessment
Applicants must select one challenge per proposal and demonstrate how their solution:
- Starts at TRL ≥ 3 and can reach TRL 6+ within the support duration
- Is feasible to develop in 9 months (software) or 12 months (hardware)
- Concludes with real‑world testing & validation in a Pilot
Full challenge descriptions, application process, and evaluation criteria will be published in the Package of Documents at launch.
